Blah Blah Blah

So, where did I leave off? The little one is now at kindergarten.  I am waiting for the vets office to open so I can schedule an appointment for our dog.

So, Thursday is my husbands interview.  Then we wait a few weeks and learn if he made it to next company status level.  I guess that's the best way to phrase without listing names.  Working for a big company is so different than a smaller one which is all I've done. All the hoops to jump through and the political navigation sucks.  How can an employee feel comfortable when layoffs are happening, the CEO is anti-union and while the employee is not in a union there is one at your place of work and they are going on strike.  Among all that my husband is trying to focus on this interview that could raise his stature significantly at work.  They literally score his answers and if he reaches a magic number he is this special thing at this company.  On par with having tenure at a college.

If he does get this status increase:  We have to choose do we stay here in the house we desperately want to move out of, but purchased during the housing boom so we overpaid combined with our neighbor who undersold when she and her husband divorced so we won't get what we paid for this house.  The elementary school has been great for the SWW and she has a fantastic teacher.  It's why we pay a ton in taxes for this school district.  The people who live here though?  I have made a lot of acquaintances.  I did join a new parenting group called MOPS and it is a very warm welcoming christian organization.  Maybe I can a make a friend or 2 through that?

Anyway, so stay here in the great school district with the house we don't love that is close to my husbands job, move into an equally good school district and try to start again with the house and friends thing? Go further away and be close to my best friends, the area I grew up in, and my parents, but an hour and a half commute for my husband.  And all of that is assuming the current location stays open.

Option 2 with current company:  west coast so family and friends on other end of the US.  Good schools for SWW, decent weather for my MS self, tons of MS doctors, but pricey.

Option 3 with current company:  new south location that is growing, no unions.  Parents and MS doctor are 9 hours away via Amtrak.  The city where the office is located has 1 MS clinic with 1 doctor and a physicians assistant.  Also very warm and humid.  Lower cost of living, but by the time you pay for the insurance for living by the water it probably evens out.  TWO good school districts for the SWW.

If he doesn't get to the next level at work (he's been there 15 years), he applied once before and did not get it.  Then what?  Entry level engineering jobs, easy to find, but upper level much harder.
